Water farm will cease to be a load for the energy system of Uzbekistan - the head of the Ministry of Health
The Minister of Water Economy Shavkat Khamraev said that in the coming years, the industry will cease to be a load for the country`s energy system, and will also produce electricity. In 2025 alone, the industry plans to save 340 million kWh of electricity due to the modernization of old pumps.
In the field of water economy of Uzbekistan, a comprehensive energy conservation program is being implemented, said the Minister of Water Economy Shavkat Khamraev in an interview with Uzbekistan 24.
According to him, only in 2025 the industry plans to save 340 million kWh of electricity.
“Today, about 6900 large pumping stations are operated in the country, which annually spend almost 7 billion kWh of electricity,” the minister said.
To reduce consumption, a number of measures have been developed: “We update old pumps and electric motors, install frequency converters, capacitors, as well as solar panels in places where it is necessary for our needs,” he said.
Khamraev gave an example from the Khorezm region, where the practice of disconnecting small pumping units from the mains is being implemented: “They are fully provided with electricity produced by the solar panels. Thus, the farmer covers its needs and even makes a profit - more than 50 million soums per year. Previously, all profit went to pay for electricity. ”
According to the minister, the country also has about 8,000 borehole pumps for underground water, which are transferred to power from solar energy.
“If in 2017 the water farm consumed 8.3 billion kWh per year, then according to the results of this year, this indicator in 2024 decreased to 6.5 billion - the savings amounted to 1.8 billion kWh.”
The Minister also announced the continuation of the energy audit. “We have given a month for a deeper study of the issue together with research institutes and specialized specialists,” he said.
In the future, according to Khamraev, the water management system will cease to be a load on the country`s energy system.
“We are sure that in the coming years the water system will not be a load on the energy system, but even can produce excess electricity. In this direction, we work on the principle of public-private partnership with Leman Swms Investment-a joint venture from Germany, Switzerland and another country. We expect to achieve serious results, ”the minister emphasized.
At the meeting, the president on June 23 noted that in parallel with the expansion of generation, the president instructed to focus on reducing losses and installing energy -efficient equipment, especially in industrial enterprises. 18 sectors of the economy account for a third of the country`s energy consumption. Only pumps of the water management system consume 6.5 billion kWh per year.
To solve this problem, it is provided for the modernization of 12 large pumps with the installation of 75-100 MW and 50 MW of solar power plants next to them. This will reduce the power consumption of pumps to 4.5 billion kWh per year. The first such projects will be implemented on the Karshinsky Magistral Canal, where the cost of water supply is especially high.
In general, the meeting considered measures to transition 18 of the most energy -intensive sectors to the autonomous energy supply system, as well as the use of solar energy in social institutions.
