“Smart Waters” improves transboundary cooperation

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan have attended the final high-level meeting of national and international partners of Smart Waters project, organized at the initiative of CAREC.

Smart Waters project is implemented by CAREC with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development USAID during the period 2015-2020. Overall objective of the project is to enhance regional cooperation on shared water resources. Specifically, Smart Waters addresses the knowledge dis-lock in the region in water sector, builds working relations among water managers and specialists, and demonstrates the potential of the basin management approach and cooperation with the academia.

The participants of the virtual event noted the positive results of the implementation of pilot programs “Smart Waters” aimed at improving transboundary cooperation in the basin of small rivers of Central Asia. The effectiveness of the work carried out on training and retraining of water specialists based on Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers was also emphasized.

Following the videoconference, an agreement was reached to continue contacts between national and international organizations in the water sector with a view to practical implementation of the experience gained during the implementation of the Smart Waters project.
