Uzbekistan Saves 2 Billion Cubic Meters of Water in Six Months by Implementing Water-Saving Technologies
Uzbekistan, Tashkent — Podrobno.uz News Agency. The Senate heard information on the implementation of measures for the rational and efficient use of water resources, improvement of management mechanisms and the legislative framework in this area, Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.The report was read by the Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan Shavkat Khamraev.
He noted that in order to efficiently use water resources, “Smart Water” control devices have been installed at 11.4 thousand water management facilities, “Diver” at 6.9 thousand, and online control devices at 1,709 pumping stations. Also, 67 large water management facilities have been fully automated.
Thanks to the use of digital technologies, the introduction of water-saving technologies on an area of more than 400 thousand hectares, and the implementation of the necessary irrigation and melioration measures in the first half of this year, more than 2 billion cubic meters of water were saved.
Throughout the republic, 10.5 thousand kilometers of internal irrigation networks were concreted, and 34.8 thousand kilometers of canals, ditches and trays were cleaned.
The suvkredit.uz platform was introduced, preferential loans in the amount of more than 2 trillion soums were allocated for the introduction of drip, rain and discrete irrigation on an area of 134.3 thousand hectares.
As a result of the discharge of 871 million cubic meters of fresh water from the Chordar reservoir and 300 million cubic meters of fresh water from other sources into the Aydar-Arnasay lake system, its ecological state is stabilizing.
It was noted that in agriculture it is necessary to focus on work to reduce water consumption, eliminate faults in irrigation systems, reduce overall water losses, introduce water-saving technologies, improve the culture of water use, and instill in the public mind the idea that “water is not free.”
