Tashkent metro`s ventilation system is being updated

The ventilation system in the Tashkent metro has been under reconstruction for the second year, the metro reported in response to passenger complaints about stuffiness. In 2025, it is planned to deliver 10 new ventilation units.

In 2025, 10 new ventilation units will be purchased for the underground stations of the Tashkent metro. This was announced at a press conference at the International Press Club in the capital on October 9 by the deputy head of the metro regime service, Abdutohir Abdukodirov.

Answering a question from a Gazeta.uz correspondent about the reason for the stuffiness at the stations during the hot season, which passengers have been complaining about lately, he said that the ventilation system has been under reconstruction for two years. Abdutohir Abdukodirov said that the metro also receives many requests on this matter.

“The planning of the Tashkent metro began in 1972. Taking into account the climatic conditions, a drip ventilation system was introduced, that is, cooling with water. Currently, there are two large fans at each underground metro station. In addition, there are similar installations on the tracks between stations,” said a representative of the metro administration.

Due to a significant increase in passenger flow, as well as a long service life, the system needs to be reconstructed. At the Chilanzar, Novza, Almazar and Pakhtakor stations, the drip ventilation systems have already been updated.

In total, more than 100 fans are currently operating at underground metro stations, said Abdutokhir Abdukodirov.

“They operate on schedule, two at a time during rush hour. The installations at the station blow air inward, the fans between stations blow air outward. This is done to circulate air in the tunnels,” said a representative of the metro management.
