Germany to help Central Asian countries solve water problem

During the Germany-Central Asia summit held in Astana, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov approached Germany with a proposal to work together to address the problem of water shortages in Central Asia.

In his speech, Japarov emphasized the high vulnerability of the region's mountain ecosystems, especially Kyrgyzstan, to climate change. He cited alarming data: over the past 70 years, the area of Kyrgyzstan's glaciers has decreased by 16%, and by the end of the 21st century, this figure could reach 80%.

Such dynamics, according to the president, pose a direct threat of water shortages throughout the Central Asian region, where the need for water resources is steadily growing against the backdrop of population growth and active economic development.

Noting Germany's commitment to climate change and rational use of water resources, Japarov put forward a proposal to establish a regional center in Bishkek for the implementation of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies. According to the President, the implementation of this initiative in cooperation with Germany will improve the efficiency of water, energy and other resources, minimize the negative impact on the environment and ensure sustainable development of the entire region.

The creation of the center will contribute to the development of the scientific research potential of Central Asia in the field of resource-saving technologies.
