A large water supply project worth $287 million has been implemented in Termez

Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the practical results of the project to improve drinking water supply in the Surkhandarya region using water from the Tupalang reservoir, according to the press service of the president.

The project, costing $287 million, is considered one of the significant achievements in this field.

Over the past years, large-scale construction and installation work has been carried out within the framework of the initiative. Thanks to the implementation of modern technologies, drinking water is now supplied uninterruptedly to ten districts of the region and the city of Termez.

“Eight to nine years ago, coverage by centralized drinking water supply in Surkhandarya was 47%. Today, this figure has been increased to 67.5%.

From a technical point of view, an important achievement was the construction of 246 kilometers of main and internal networks. Importantly, based on hydraulic calculations, it became possible to supply water under pressure without using pumps. This has significantly reduced energy costs and ensured system stability. Thanks to this approach, water is supplied to the city of Termez, as well as to the Angor, Bandikhan, Qizirik, Sherabad, and Muzrabat districts,” the statement said.

As a result of the project implementation, water supply has been stabilized in 223 mahallas. Water hardness has been reduced by almost half. Thanks to the improved system, the use of more than a hundred local wells has become unnecessary, reducing environmental impact.

In addition, 18.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity will be saved annually, which amounts to about 18.5 billion soms in monetary terms. Connecting consumers to the billing system has increased the transparency of water payments and allowed for debt reduction.

The geoinformation center established at the “Shimoliy” water facility provides real-time monitoring of the system. This allows pressure drops, emergency situations, and water losses to be identified within minutes.

The president emphasized the need for comprehensive support for large-scale energy, technological, and socially significant projects. He also noted the importance of applying such experience in other regions of the country.

Another important aspect was the installation of solar panels with a total capacity of 6,418 kilowatt-hours on an area of 10 hectares.

The head of state also reviewed the region's hydroelectric indicators and prospective projects in this area. Tasks were set to promptly resolve remaining water supply issues, including the replacement of outdated pumping units with energy-efficient ones and the modernization of networks.
