An `Intelligent Water Management System` will be implemented in Jizzakh — what results are expected?
The total cost of the project amounts to $21.6 million.TASHKENT, January 8 — Sputnik. A modern water management system will be introduced in the Dostlik district of Jizzakh region, according to the Ministry of Agriculture's press service.
During his visit to the Jizzakh region, Minister Ibrohim Abdurahmonov reviewed a remote control project designed to improve the efficiency and rational use of water resources in the Dostlik district.
"The irrigation system ensures the watering of 33.4 thousand hectares of cultivated land in the Dostlik district. However, this system was commissioned in 1970–1975, and today, more than 30% of water is lost through irrigation channels. To address these issues, it is planned to introduce a modern 'Smart Water Management System' based on advanced technologies," the report says.
The total cost of the project is $21.6 million and will be implemented in cooperation with China’s “Beijing Hrunan” company under the principles of public-private partnership.
As a result of the project, water use efficiency is expected to increase by 30%, and an additional 20% water savings will be achieved by supporting farmers in adopting water-saving systems.
Currently, 7,100 hectares (21%) of the district's land are equipped with water-saving technologies. To bring this figure to 100%, additional funding of 297 billion UZS is planned.
"The Minister highly appreciated the practical significance of this project and emphasized the importance of testing it in the Dostlik district to develop proposals for implementation in other regions," the report states.
In addition, instructions were given to establish closer cooperation with farmers and enhance their interest in the project.
